Entry from: Antalya, Turkey Entry Title: "Blue Voyage from Antalya to Kas (and back)" Entry: "We flew from Istanbul through to Antalya...over some amazing, sharp rock-topped mountains and down to the blue green Mediterranean. The sun was out and it was warm. We prayed for good weather, and I prayed for calm seas, a sturdy boat and no sea-sickness. This was to be the famed Blue Cruise--the small yachts that stay close to the shoreline and journey to the nooks and crannies of the coastline to see ruins, small towns and as we found out, sometimes just to park for a dip in the sea with beautiful, remote beaches around you. This would turn out to be one of the most relaxing weeks I've had in my life...and I got a great tan :) The day we got there was our anniversary. We put our stuff on the boat, "Be Happy"...our cabin #4 was the last one on the right as you walked from the front of the boat...so, the boat itself was nice, but no great shakes. The "facilities" were less than nice. Bryan took to calling it the "sandbox". The water ran cold out of the shower faucet, which hung over the toilet. It smelled bad in there. We kept the door shut and the portholes open. Our room was basically a bunk almost for 2, with a small space for luggage. It would do--it was only about 0 USD for both of us for the ...

Entry from: Hakone, Japan Entry Title: "Mt. Fuji and Hakone" Entry: "No trip to Japan would be complete without seeing Mt. Fuji. It's the largest mountain in Japan. It's a pretty neat sight but without doing an activity on it - like climbing it - it's just a nice mountain to look at. Big deal. The next time we're here we're going to conquer Mt. Fuji - seriously! Next, we headed to Hanoke Hot Springs. We headed up to this hot springs via cable car and were able to see the lake in the background and the active volcano that we would be on top of. We arrived at the top and saw smoke spewing everywhere. We ran up the mountain to this station where they were serving Black hard boiled eggs. Apparently, this is their claim to fame. The eggs are hard boiled in the hot springs surrounding the mountain. The volcano heats these hot springs up to ridiculous temperatures like 300 degrees Fahrenheit. Each egg you eat is said to prolong your life by 7 years. The superstition goes that if you eat four you die. I ate six and then died. I had to put it to the test and those Japanese superstitions are extremely accurate. Surprisingly, I thought the eggs tasted better than normal hard boiled eggs. I'm telling you the Japanese really know how to make great food even if it takes a hot springs to do it." Read and see more at ...

The Best Recipe Overview
Founded in 1980, Cook's Illustrated (formerly Cook's Magazine) has emerged as "America's Test Kitchen," renowned for its near-obsessive dedication to finding the best methods of American home cooking. Over the years, we've tested 80 recipes for chocolate chip cookies, more than 70 recipes for gumbo, 40 versions of the peanut butter cookie, and more than 20 versions of such simple recipes as coleslaw, roast chicken, and hash brown potatoes. The Best Recipe is a collection of the editors' picks from the pages of Cook's Illustrated. The recipes have been edited, organized, and annotated with in-depth descriptions of how we developed the "best" recipe. And they appear alongside dozens of equipment ratings and taste tests of supermarket foods, as well as more than 200 illustrations demonstrating the most efficient food preparation methods.
In The Best Recipe, we invite you into our test kitchen, where you will stand at our elbow as we try to develop the best macaroni and cheese or the best split pea soup. You'll discover how to make a foolproof yellow cake, a perfectly cooked prime rib roast, and homemade bread in under two hours. You'll find out how to solve the problem of watery coleslaw, overcooked turkey breast, acidic salad dressing, dull tomato sauce, sticky white rice, dry turkey burgers, tough scrambled eggs, and sunken birthday cakes. You will also find the secret to bakery-style high-rise muffins and the way to make that restaurant favorite, warm, fallen chocolate cake, at home, with only a few minutes of preparation.
The Best Recipe also gives you useful tips on purchasing cookware (based on extensive test kitchen evaluations), including pie plates, food processors, standing mixers, chef's knives, skillets, vegetable peelers, and Dutch ovens. We also explain the science of cooking (how to cream butter and why, how baking powder works, the difference between semisweet and bittersweet chocolate) and offer tips on purchasing canned chicken stock, canned tomatoes, flour, butter, and dried pasta.
The editors of Cook's Illustrated have performed thousands of hours of kitchen testing to bring you a cookbook that not only provides the best recipes but also tells you how they came to be that way. Let The Best Recipe become your one-stop cooking school and your favorite kitchen reference.

* Fozelék - A mashed vegetable dish made from, cabbage, lentils, peas, potatoes, spinach, squash, or tomatoes. The dish is eaten as a main course, and may be topped with a hard-boiledegg, meatballs or pörkölt.
* Gulyás (also known as "Gulyásleves") - A beef and vegetable soup. Meat (usually shank, shin or shoulder) is cut into chunks, seasoned, paprika added, and then browned in a pot with oil. Sliced onions, peppers, garlic, herbs, and sometimes ultimately chopped potatoes are added. The soup achieves a thick texture because of the gelatin from the bones in the meat, as well as the starch for any potatoes used.
* Pan-fried Goose Liver
* Pörkölt - A meat stew with meat, onion and paprika. Bell peppers, caraway seeds and tomatoes are used in some dissimilarity of the recipe, although some chefs prefer to avoid these items. Typically beef, lamb, pork or chicken is used as the meat, but offal such tripe or liver can be used, and some citizen have even been known to get ready the dish using seafood.
