Hard Boiled Eggs

Last week I was peeling hard boiled eggs. After years of boiling eggs, it seemed I had it
down to a science of being able to crack the egg and the hard shell would approximately
drop right off. For a long time I believed the unlikeness in how the shell came off had
something to do with the age of the egg. Then I idea if I cooked it just right it would
be easier to peel.

Well that day as I labored over a half dozen eggs, I found that only one or two allowed
the shell to break away with no effort. The others were so difficult to peel that the shell
fragments made my fingers sore. I began to get impatient and frustrated at my task,
even losing some of the good egg white that stuck to the shell. And God began to
speak. He said that this was a spiritual chapter for me. '

Hard Boiled Eggs Time

I began to see the similarities in the middle of my egg shelling and God's removing the hard shells colse to our hearts and our lives. Sometimes we yield to Him and our hard shells of anger, bitterness, unforgiveness and other sins slip right off. Other times we hold on so tight to the shells in our lives
(protective coverings or ease zones) that He can only remove tiny bits and pieces at a
time.

The pain I felt in my fingers represented the sorrow and grief God feels when we
allow the process to go on for a long time. So I wondered, is the unlikeness based on
how long we've been 'cooked' or the age of our sins? Maybe it's our level of maturity or
amount of desire to be like Him. All I know is that God showed me a spiritual truth that
day, giving me much to think about as I painstakingly peeled those eggs. And He was
busy peeling away a diminutive more impatience from me that day.

Thank You, Lord, for wisdom and comprehension that is so freely given by You when we
earnestly seek after it. (James 1:5)
